How a Keepsake Is Made: From Clothing to Bear, Cushion, and Blanket
Many people ask us exactly what happens when a garment is turned into a keepsake.
Here’s how we work, step by step.
1. A conversation and choosing the clothing
It all starts with a conversation. We ask you to send us the clothing that holds
sentimental value for you — this could be shirts, dresses, jumpers, pyjamas, or even
ties. Together we decide what you’d like made: a bear, a cushion, or a blanket, and
which details you especially want preserved (buttons, a pocket, a label, a particular
pattern).
2. Assessing the fabric
We treat every fabric individually. We check its thickness, stretch, and condition to
choose the right sewing technique — so the keepsake is durable while still keeping
the character of the original garment.
3. Design and pattern-cutting
At this stage we plan which pieces of fabric will go where — for example, a favourite
shirt pocket becoming a patch on a bear, or a name label sewn into a cushion.
4. Hand-sewing
Every keepsake is made with close attention to detail, often hand-finished in key areas
to keep it soft and comfortable while remaining sturdy for years to come.
5. Final touches
Finally, we take care of every detail — stuffing, edge finishing, and any extras such as
embroidery, ribbon, or a button from the original garment. Your keepsake arrives
ready to stay with you for years.
